COMMUNITY HALL_PERAK

Frequently we see mini community hall in rural areas, designed with typical layout, bare facade and double pitch roof which totally gave an out dated looks.

We already in millenium era, which our country is going forward towards a developed country. The way our people looking at quality of building design also have to change paralel to the change of living quality and level of intellectuality. We should appreciate a better look of our environment.

This is an example where I did a community hall design in rural area. Basically, the hall is designed for a 50 pax seated and with toilets facility, just like normal hall. What makes the hall design different than others are:

1. Planning
     - Main entry and drop-off point are from the side of the hall intead of from the normal frontage
     - External garden designed as is within the building space
     - Toilets are placed different way

2. Facade
     - Modern design with clear defined lines
     - No overhang pitch roof around building. Replaced with rc. awnings.
     - Featured with ventilation block to allow free breezing through fully open sliding door inside.

MY ARTWORK NO.1 (SCHOOL TIME)

This is my major artwork done during my school time. I was recognized by most of my school friends and some of teachers as a boy with a pretty good skill in arts....thanks God for the Gift.

This artwork was done on a plain wall in school hostel. I was requested by a teacher to beautify the study room which I had decided to paint the wall with a panoramic view of estuary. I took a paper cut of photo shot for my reference and inspiration. It was quite a tough job as to render the image to a large scale painting.

Materials used were water base emulsion paint. It took almost two weeks to finish the work with some helps from my colleague, especially on base coat painting. It was a nice moment and I really enjoy doing this.

Actually I did another artwork on outside wall. Unfortunately it was gone, maybe due to weather factors and they have repainted the external wall.

After so many years, the artwork still there as seen in the photo. On the right bottom side of the artwork, my signature still there.....I feel so proud because they still keep it there as original..TQ.

MIXED DEVELOPMENT_ CONVENTION CENTER, RETAIL CENTER, HOTEL AND SERVICED APARTMENT

The image is a paper cut related to my current project involved in Ipoh. This is the best experience so far to me in design development. The complexity of the building designed as combination of several separated function and building typology has exposed me to a very challenging and invaluable experience.

This project is a joint development project between public (Authority Council) and private company. Dealing with them also was such a comprehensive added knowledge and experience to me as an architect.

Talking about the building, the whole development will be built on 3.2 ac land in the heart of Ipoh City Center which will develop into a new landmark to the city. It comprise of an International Convention Center with capacity of 2500 pax. (own by Authority Council), retail mall, 18 storey hotel and 18 storey serviced apartment. An open public park will also be built at level 3 as compensation to acquisition of the whole land ( as for now used for public garden and park).

The existing public road abutting the land will be turned into a public street mall. The 3 storey retail shops are designed with open (natural ventilated) corridor and unified with public street mall on ground level.

For the façade design, we played around with fractal geometry concept to achieve an elegance and contemporary look. The concept of elevated garden also manipulated on façade.

INTERIOR DESIGN _BANGI

This is an ID works on a brand new semi detached house in Bangi. The owner/client needs input on decorating his newly bought house. The composition of overall internal spaces is typical. Generally the house design is up to date and workmanship is good. My task is  to beautify the house as to match the external modern look house.

  View From Main Entrance
As we enter the house, we will see formal living space on right hand side and informal living / family watching area on left hand side. A powder room is attached to informal space. For these spaces, I tried to clearly define the separate function of space as the combination of the two spaces was quit huge. I took serious attempt by introducing decorative panels that is rarely acceptable by people especially Malay owner. These two decorative panels act respectively as focal point and space separator/partition between the spaces. The focal point intentionally created simple as it is combined with full height curtain as to enhance the formalization of the space.

The second decorative panel right in front of the main door is functioning as screen wall / partition to avoid direct visibility from outside towards informal living / family watching space and also acts in creating passage to powder room.

View Toward Family Watching Space. Can see the position of decorative panel.Tv                   backdrop is finished with timber veneer panel and wall papered at remaining areas.

View From Kitchen Entrance Towards Dining Space

    Dining Space

Dining space is the simplest decorated space. The owner wants the space look spacious. However the ambiance of the space still looks elegance with combination of wall paper, curtain and lighting control. The beauty of space can still can be enhanced by hanging art works or photographic elements on the plain wall.

    Kitchen

    Kitchen

Designing kitchen space and placing its components has always been more complicated as it is related to the kitchen activities and management. With limited space, we have to ensure the functionality and practicality of utilising the minimum space and yet aesthetically acceptable. Proper planning is important.

This L-shape kitchen space has been designed with linear working sequence. As the client wanted to have an island for breakfast table, this is where the challenge comes. The existing white glazing wall tiles remained. Light grey 3G glass material has been chosen for cabinet finishing and white textured solid surface for counter top (changed to black by client).

    Master Bedroom

Master bedroom is quit huge. Works have been done on bed backdrop, study table and wardrobe. Veneer wood finish used for bed backdrop while study table and shelf was finished with wood textured laminating. The compartment arrangement of master wardrobe also challenging as it has to suit with client’s need. Several revisions has been made until the client agreed with the design.

    Bedroom 2 ( Girl's)

Bedroom 2 (Other from study table)

Bedroom 2 is for two daughters. They wanted a pink/purple concept room. Wardrobe, study table and book shelves are subdivided and personalised. All built-in cabinets are finished with white glazed laminate with some pinked area. Purple tone wallpaper color was chosen for back drop wall.
